Remote access to most electronic resources is available to authorized cardholders.
Under contract with the National Library of Medicine, the Library
serves as the Regional Medical Library for AR, LA, NM, OK, and TX. The
mission of the NN/LM is to advance the progress of medicine and improve
public health by: 1) providing all U.S. health professionals with equal
access to biomedical information; and 2) improving the public’s
access to information to enable them to
make informed decisions about their health.
Books, articles and other materials not available at the HAM–TMC Library can be borrowed from other libraries throughout the country.* Self-serve photocopiers (located on the 1st and 2nd floors) cost $.25/page cash or $.20/page on a copy card. All public computers are equipped with Internet access. Computers with a variety of software including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint are located on the lower level in the lab. All computers are attached to printers and there is a $.20/page on copy card and $.25/page cash to print in black and white and a $.50/page charge to print in color.
The Library offers many classes including PubMed, CINAHL, Navigating Full-Text Journals, Internet for Medical Research, PowerPoint Presentations, EndNote and Reference Manager. The Jesse H. Jones Community Health Information Service is a collection of books, videos, and brochures on health topics of interest to the general public. Less technical than the general collection, this service is a resource for patients, families, and others interested in locating information on health conditions and wellness. Disabled parking is available on the circular drive in front of the Library and in the parking garage. The front door to the Library is wheelchair accessible by using the elevator to the left of the doors. An elevator inside the Library provides access to the lower level, 1st, and 2nd floors. An elevator in the parking garage provides access to the Library via the 3rd floor crossover. (Please note: this elevator does not run on weekends.)
The Library has study rooms available on a first-come, first-served basis. There are study carrels, tables and lounge seating on all floors.
