MLA Style Guide for Citations (9th edition): Number

Some sources are a part of a numbered series. For example, a magazine that is published monthly will likely have a volume number and an issue number. You would include both of those numbers in your citation.

Some common types of sources that are part of a numbered series

  • Articles from periodicals
  • Books from a multivolume set (such as an encyclopedia)
  • Comic books
  • Episodes of TV shows
