Finding Magazine Articles
A magazine is "a periodical for general reading, containing articles on various subjects by different authors" (Young, 1983, p. 137).
To recognize a magazine, look for:
- A glossy look to attract the casual reader.
- Lots of advertising.
- Short articles (compared to a journal).
- Lots of photographs.
Magazines usually include these kinds of articles, etc.:
- News stories
- Editorials
- Columns
- Feature stories
- Advertisements
- Reviews
- Interviews
Where can I find magazine articles?
- Each HCCS library location has some magazines on hand.
- You can find articles from many magazines in the HCCS subscription databases. The "Magazine" databases are usually a good place to start searching. Some of the databases include magazines published as early as 1980, and they usually continue through the latest issue.
- The contents of a relatively small number of magazines are available on the Internet.
