Book Requests

View a demo.

To place a borrowing request, you must be in the HCC Library Catalog at a book's specific page where the description, location, call number, and status are displayed. Before placing a request, determine if the item is a book; whether the location area indicates it is circulating; and if its status is on shelf. Only circulating books can be requested online. Reference books, reserve books and materials, media (e.g. videos), and magazines/journals are for in library use only and can not be obtained this way. If the status area has a date (e.g. 03/15/06) showing, the book is checked out and your request will not be processed until the book is returned. If other circulating copies with on shelf status are shown, select one of them.

To borrow, click on the request icon at the top of the page and enter your name and library barcode in the spaces provided. Then, click on the down arrow of the Choose a Pickup Location box and highlight the library where you want to pick up the book. Next, click on the Submit Above Information box at the bottom of the page. If it will not process, there may be a problem with your library record and you should call your campus library. If the book has more than one location, the request will generally go the first library listed. You may select another location by clicking in the circle at the left of the entry. Be sure to do so if the first location indicates the book is non-circulating (e.g. reserve, reference) or a checked out. Finally, click the Request Selected Item box to send the request to the library.

The book will normally arrive at your chosen library two to three "working" days after the request. Sometimes, it will take longer. If the book is not available, you will be notified by phone or email.
