For Distance Students
All HCC students have the same rights and privileges, and we make a strong effort to make sure that our Distance Education students don't feel too far removed from campus. Below are some of the services that may be of most interest to DE students.
- Get My Barcode
- Don't have a library card? Don't worry! Use this quick and easy form to request that your library account be created and to receive your library barcode. This will allow you to access a wealth of resources.
- My Library Account
- This allows you to renew books online, see what you have checked out, check the status of holds you've placed, and more.
- Ask A Librarian
- Can't come to us? No problem! We'll come to you - electronically! Use this service to access email, live-chat, and phone reference assistance.
- LibLine: An HCC Libraries Blog
- LibLine provides you with plenty of information about how to get the most out of the HCC Libraries as a distance student. Information about how to get started with research, where to find the best sources, and how to get in touch with librarians who can help you are just a few of the topics covered. Additionally, you can subscribe to LibLine, and get this helpful info delivered straight to your email inbox!
- Article Databases
- These electronic resources contain the full text of thousands of articles, and citations or abstracts for many more. Searching these databases will allow you to find relevant, verifiable, and reliable information on your research topics.
- HCC E-Journals
- Some e-journals are available for free, and all are freely available on-campus. HCCS students, faculty, and staff may access subscription journals off-campus by using their HCCS Library barcode.
- Free Web-Based E-Journals
- E-Books
- With almost 20,000 digitized, searchable, research-oriented books on a wide array of topics, this is a resource that all distance ed students should know about!
- Tutorials
- Not sure how to find what you're looking for? Simply need to brush up on your research skills? Afraid you might be plagiarizing without knowing it?! These tutorials will help you find your way.
- Library Catalog
- The HCC Library catalog is available online, and will allow you to search for and find many books in any of our 13 system-wide libraries.
- Book Requests
- Using this handy feature, you can have a book sent from one HCC Library to one that is closer to your home.
- Online Reference Sources
- With both a quick reference list and a much more comprehensive list of sources, these items will get you the answers you need, fast!
Faculty who have questions about creating an effective library assignment should discuss their objectives with an HCCS librarian or visit Creating Effective Library Assignments.
