Library Reserves
Reserves are items that have a non-circulating or limited library circulation status and are housed in a restricted area of the library. They are usually for in library use only, but the librarian may designate a limited borrowing period (e.g. overnight, two days, etc.) for some at the request of the faculty. A library barcode is usually required to use the items in house. Many reserve materials are provided by academic departments and individual faculty members and are not part of the library's permanent collection. However, some items are library materials and have been placed there at the request of HCCS faculty, administration, or librarians. Most materials are placed on reserve for specific academic courses and it is important that patrons know the course 's number or title when requesting such materials. Common HCCS reserve materials include course textbooks and manuals, math course related videocassettes, television distance education course related videocassettes, and books that faculty want the entire class to have access to for study, reading, or course purposes. Fines are charged for overdue reserve videos.
NOTE: As a general rule, the HCCS libraries do not purchase textbooks when they are being used as a course text. Therefore, textbooks that are on reserve tend to be the property of a department or faculty member and are not a part of the library's permanent collection.
Please contact a librarian for information on E-Reserves.
