Horror Films: A Study of Genre and Form: Home

Welcome!

Welcome to the HCC Library Course LibGuide for ENGL 2341: Forms of Literature / "Horror Films: A Study of Genre and Form."

Information and instructions on utilizing Eagle Library Search and exploring library databases can be found in the next 2 tabs of this guide. If you would like to jump right in, the curated searches on this page may be helpful.

Course Description

In this course, students will uncover the historical and social value given Horror and its generic conventions in particular as they convey gender and gendered experiences or expectations. To this end, we will be exploring other forms within the genre, namely comic books and short stories. Likewise, students will also become conversant in film as a medium and be able to use the language of Film Studies scholarship appropriately. In order to display mastery of course content, students will be asked to analyze and critique both scholarship and the films themselves. Throughout, we will ask questions like, "What is the social benefit of this text? What social conventions does it confirm or disrupt? Why do we like Horror?"
