Generative AI for Students: Home

HCC's Guidelines for the Use of AI and Generative AI

HCC strives to be an institution of innovation that prepares its students for work in the modern, ever-evolving workplace. The use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a tool creates global opportunities that have not previously been seen. Generative AI models are powerful tools that can support key components of HCC’s mission, including teaching, learning, research, writing support, and data analysis. The use of Generative AI also carries potential risks and limitations. HCC seeks to use Generative AI in a manner that encourages innovation while limiting risks to the institution and its stakeholders and ensuring the use of trustworthy information.

1. Most likely, your professor will have your course set on Eagle Online Canvas. Please make sure to visit the course, check the syllabus, and keep up with your professor's announcements!

2. Read your syllabus! What does the syllabus say about using generative AI for class?

3. Engage your professor in a conversation about the appropriate use of generative ai on their course!

Beware of AI/GAI Mistakes!

Hallucinations

GAI hallucinations happen when a computer or AI/GAI system says something that is incorrect or doesn't make sense.
style="text-align: center;">This happens because the AI tries to guess based on the information it has, but it can get things wrong and make fake answers or fake sources!

Bias

AI/GAI can produce biased or unfair results if it has been trained on data that contains biases, leading to discrimination or unfair treatment of certain groups.

Misinterpretation

AI might misinterpret inputs due to a lack of context or nuanced understanding, leading to incorrect or inappropriate responses.
