Hotspots: FAQ

Who can check them out?

In order to check out a hotspot you must be:

  • A current HCC student in good standing with the HCC Libraries
  • With no overdue library materials

How can I borrow a Library Hotspot?

To borrow a library hotspot you must be a current full or part-time HCC student in good standing (no library holds), provide a current Student ID card, and a photo ID at the time of checkout.

How long do they check out?

Hotspots are due the last day of your enrollment. If you enroll again you may renew the hotspot by contacting the owning library.
Hotspots may not be renewed. 

Can they be renewed?

Hotspots may not be renewed.
You can request another hotspot by 
Logging in to your HCC Library account to request a Hotspot online. You will receive a courtesy notice 3 days before the due date.

Getting Started

Connect to the Internet

  1. To turn your hotspot on, press and hold the Power button for 2-3 seconds until the screen turns on. (The screen displays the hotspot's Wi-Fi network name and password. 
  2. On your computer or device, go to the Wi-Fi application and select the hotspot's name in the list of available networks. If given the option, choose to "Connect Automatically" or "Remember this Connection." Then enter the password.
  3. If you have additional devices you want to connect, follow Step 3 for each device.
  4. Launch your Internet browser. 
  5. When you are finished using the hotspot, please power it off. Press and hold the Power button until the display shows "Goodbye."

What can I use the library’s Hotspot for?

A Wi-Fi hotspot is a small device that provides an internet connection for a computer or device at home or on the go. HCC Libraries provides a two different hotspot models and both models have similar functions.
