Project Name and Purpose:

Innovation Fellows Roadside Assistance

The purpose of this LibGuide is to ensure all incoming cohorts a centralized location where useful tools for innovative teaching and learning, in support of faculty, staff, and student success, can be found. This LibGuide is an accessible and continuing repository for Fellowship projects, contact information, resources, and other information we wish we’d had earlier in the process. This LibGuide becomes an archive of materials shared in one place from across various platforms, giving Fellows a chance to go back and read material they may have missed.

Philosophy Underlying the Project:

Innovation is generated in the Intersection of seemingly unrelated ideas and forces. Here are some examples of diverse influences on our philosophy:

“Success is a journey, not a destination. The doing is often more important than the outcome.” Arthur Ashe

“If you don’t know where you’re going, how will you know when you get there?” Lewis Carroll

“It doesn’t matter where you go, it’s who you travel with.” Charles Schultz

“Not all who wander are lost.” JRR Tolkein

“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” Mary Oliver

Service of Project towards Innovation:

The goals of the Innovation Fellows:

“The West Houston Institute Innovation Fellows program is designed to facilitate personal creativity that leads to transformation of our educational and operational practices to generate innovation across the Houston Community College system.”

What if we could make the next cohort’s journey a little easier?

As traveling companions tend to do, as we go along we tell each other stories. We are the griots, the history-preservers, of our Fellowship. This storytelling hasn’t been done yet for our Innovation Fellowship community. We’re building off Andre’s classroom practice of having his current students write letters to future students, which creates three overlapping communities: the current-student-writers, the future-student-readers (who will, in turn, become current-student-writers), and the whole community which now shares memories and hopes.

Concluding Thoughts:

“It’s in the coming together that we’ve learned from each other.” Alexa Azzopardi

“With proper resources and mentoring the pathway to success is easier to find.” Maria Barragan

“We’re all in this together.” Lane Fletcher

“Don’t toss a pebble. Throw a boulder in the pond.” Andre Herman
