MLA Style Guide for Citations (9th edition): Formatting Your Paper

General Guidelines

Basic Formatting Information

  • The body of the paper will have 1 inch margins and double-spacing. The recommended font is Times New Roman, 12 point. 
  • At the top left corner of the first page enter your name, the professor's name, the course and the date. The date will be in day month year format.
  • Your last name and the page number will be included on the header of the paper. (If you are using Microsoft Word, click on Insert, then Page Number. Select Top of Page, then Plain Number 3. Type your name to the left of the number.
  • You will list your references at the end of your paper, on a separate page titled Works Cited.
