Library Stories: Home

  Your Story Matters!

How has the library contributed to your success at HCC? Did librarians help you find sources to write your paper? Did you find a quiet library space to study for your exam? Maybe library staff provided a listening ear (or a hotspot) when you really needed it?

We want to hear your library story so that we can better advocate for libraries in the future. If you give us permission to share your story, we will only do so with your first name and library location.

The library's members and resources have allowed me to be in the right track when it comes to finding appropriate sources and citations for essays. Raquel Donahue is a person I would like to recognize. She is such a professional library member, super sweet, provides the most helpful resources when I face trouble with my essays, is very guiding when using resources, and always helps answering my questions to the point I feel actually helped, she is the best!

The staff are all very hospitality oriented, and friendly, they are great listeners and strive to go above and beyond student's expectations.

The library has given me the resources for completing my classes [as well as] the books to inspire my personal growth. All of the librarians...are so kind and thoughtful!

I had not been to school in 30 years, I knew nothing. These ladies took me by the hand they made me feel safe, safe in knowing it was okay not to know. They took time with me as I pecked away on the computer. If I needed a tutor they pointed me in the right direction, help with canvas, help enrolling in classes; whatever problem I had regarding school, they provided the answer or how to find the answer. They never made me feel small, dumb, or most importantly, out of place. It was what I needed in my life; they had no idea what I was going through. That made it all the better because it was genuine. They probably will never know but they made a difference in my life and in my education.

They are always helpful when it comes to... getting ready to pick classes, [and checking out] a laptop which helped me in so many ways, because I don't have a laptop, and it really helps to have them.

Javier was very helpful with IT issues I was having.

Thank you so much for your valuable assistance. I appreciate the work libraries do. You are one of the under-acknowledged heroes of student success.

Michael, Faculty, Spring Branch

The staff at the library is exceptional. They are always pleasant, enthusiastic and eager to hunt down any information you request whether it is by email or in person. The Library Orientation sessions are exceptional. Each time I teach ENGL 1302 I bring my class to the library for an entire class session so everyone can learn how to gather information for their research paper. Some students are empowered by discovering how they can find any information they need through the HCC Library databases, and they are the library staff are "hands-on" in showing/assisting them in navigating the HCC library online.

Joy, Faculty, Spring Branch

Through library orientations HCC librarians have instructed my students on how to use the HCC library for research and for pleasure reading. They have demonstrated how to search databases, look for peer reviewed material and perform career searches. They have provided easily accessed reference material on how to cite using APA, MLA and other kinds of protocol.
