Northline Library

Orientations and Research Instruction

Faculty can request instruction from a Northline librarian focused on research skills —generally, or for a specific assignment, how to perform citation, a general library orientation to our services and spaces, or a combination. Please request instruction 2 weeks in advance, when possible.

Northline Library Instruction Request

HCC faculty may opt for one, two, or three successive library sessions, depending on their students' needs. Below are some examples of how faculty may choose to structure their series requests:

[Session 1] Basic Library Orientation + Tour

[Session 2] Using the Catalog & Databases

[Session 1] General Library Orientation + Tour

[Session 2] Using the Catalog & Databases + How to Build a Search

[Session 3] Plagiarism + MLA Style Citation Workshop.

[Session 1] Hybrid Library Orientation + Using the Catalog & Databases

[Session 2] Assignment-specific research workshop (Texas Reality Check, OOH)

[Session 3] Plagiarism + MLA, APA, or Chicago Style Citation Workshop

[Session 1] Hybrid Library Orientation + Using the Catalog & Databases

[Session 2] Assignment-specific research workshop + MLA Citation + Plagiarism

[Session 3] OPTIONAL: Hands-on research support session (students leave with 3+ sources)

Our librarians can offer abbreviated versions of multi-content coverage requests (Ex. Orientation, Catalog & Databases Searching, and Assignment-specific resources) within a single session, but it comes at the expense of coverage depth. The length of your class meeting time will impact coverage possibilities.
