Writing Tools for Mobile Devices: Home

Beyond Microsoft Word

Illustration of Parchment and Quill Pen One of the perks of being an HCC student is the availability of five (5!) copies of Microsoft Office available to download for offline use. Of course, online use is unlimited via MS 365, but not everyone has Internet access readily available at home. If that applies to you there's no need to resort to pen and paper or to spend lots of time sitting in a coffee shop or parking lot with free WIFI. You have several alternatives available.

Maybe the only network access available to you is on your phone. We've listed several apps for your smart phone or tablet. If your data plan permits, writing on your phone is not as cumbersome as you might think. You might even be able to talk some of your paper instead of type it! Hint: If you use voice input be sure to check your spelling and grammar thoroughly.

And while we're on the topic of phones you might even be able to provide your own WIFI hot-spot and get networked anytime, anywhere. Check your mobile plan for availability and cost.

The purpose of this LibGuide is to help students choose the the best writing tools for both online and offline use. Use the tabs above to explore some of your options.
