All faculty, both full and part-time, are required to complete TL1621 HCC Online Learning Certification training. This self-paced, professional development process spans a 2-week period and takes most faculty between 5 and 20 hours to earn their certification. The TL1621 training is a series of self-paced, online modules with optional, synchronous, help sessions in WebEx.

As a new hire, you are required to register for an upcoming session

Upon successful completion of this program for certification, you may then apply for 25 hours of professional development on the Library Training Report Form from our Library Training Academy (LTA).

Computer Use: HCC W # or staff login will provide access to our computers. Guests to HCC can receive a guest pass that will allow computer access for two hours.

Student/Guest Printing: Black and white copies are 10 cents and color copies (if available at your location) are 25 cents. Payment made by credit card are done through Eagle Print on the computer and cash payments can be loaded through the pay station in the library. Some cash machines take coins and others only bills.

Staff Printing: Library employees can use their staff ID or staff login to print for free. HCC faculty and staff can typically print using their badge or login and the amount available is designated by their department.

HCC Brand Standards offers a "Brandbook" with information about marketing HCC on our website and other places. These standards also include guidelines for our email signature. To create your HCC email signature, visit the Brand Standards page and select the instructions for PC or Mac.

Around the start of each semester each campus sends an email blast to all instructors at their campus with information on requesting instruction and general information related to the library. Below are a few instructions that assist with this process.

Full-time faculty have the opportunity to utilize up to $2,000 from the Faculty Professional Development Fund during the current fiscal year for specific events and resources. This can be used for things like professional organizations, travel and attendance of conferences, books, and more. When attending a conference or traveling for professional development, there is a Travel and Expense page to view for more information. When booking a hotel with Faculty Professional Development Funds, you MUST use the hotel tax exempt form or you will be required to pay those taxes out of pocket.

In order to receive your travel card to use for purchases, you will need to complete the Eagle Travel and Expense Card training in Percipio. Go to Employee Online Learning (Percipio) -> Click VIEW Assignments -> Select COMPLIANCE -> take the required training.

Full-time librarians are all assigned subject(s) or department areas to serve as the primary point of contact between HCC Libraries and the academic department or CEO program for the assigned discipline. The liaison will develop and maintain communication of resources to promote and support student learning outcomes. Liaisons are not expected to be subject matter experts in their assigned areas. There is a draft FAQ Document available from the Liaison Committee with some helpful tips.

There are also LibGuides for the subject areas that should be reviewed regularly for possible updates.

If you are unfamiliar with LibGuides or how to edit your guide SpringShare has several training resources available.

The Library Training Academy (LTA) is our library specific training. Each year, full-time staff are expected to complete at least 6 hours of LTA training and an additional 6 hours of trainings of your choice. Attending TLA or similar conferences can easily earn you the 6 hours of trainings of your choice. Mandatory compliance training in Percipio does not count toward this requirement.

New librarians who are required to take Canvas Online Learning Certification Training (TL 1621) can count 25 hours toward their LTA training hours. Click the dropdown tab for Canvas Online Learning Certification Training (TL 1621) to learn more.

LTA training hours can include upcoming trainings from the LTA calendar or previously recorded LTA trainings.

LTA hours are reported in the current LTA statistics form.

There may be instances where you need to report behavior that is concerning, disruptive, or involves student misconduct. In those instances, please utilize one of the report forms on the Student Conduct Resources page.

Staff must take periodic trainings required by the college. You will want to watch for system emails about trainings so that you don’t miss these courses and you will also want to check the Employee Online Learning regularly. Once you are logged into this site, you will click on “View Compliance” to see trainings that are due to be completed.

For questions or technical support related to Percipio training, contact emp.onlinelearning@hccs.edu or call 713-718-8614.

PSLO assessments are quizzes given to students to gauge how well they understood and retained the material you went over during the class. Full-time librarians are expected to have 6 instruction sessions with at least 3 PSLO Qualtrics assessments administered per fall and spring semesters (faculty request or webinar) as defined by ACRL. There are 4 PSLO quizzes and you can also create custom quizzes that must contain at least one question from a PSLO quiz to count toward your 3 quizzes for the semester.

Updates to come.
