LibChat Guide

There are several help pages that SpringShare provides for LibChat. Some offer webinars that are live or recorded, while others provide a place to connect with other LibChat users. These can be accessed by clicking the question mark in the top right corner of the yellow navigation bar.

ADDITIONAL HELPFUL TIPS

Responding:

  • Try to respond to incoming chats within 30 seconds.
  • Reach out to librarians if there are not enough staff members available in chat.

Sample Greetings:

  • "Good afternoon. My name is Jenn Wigle and I am a librarian at our Spring Branch Campus. How can I help you?"
  • "Hi there! I can certainly help you with that. Let me take a look and I will be right back with you."
  • "Good morning. I see you are researching Abraham Lincoln. Is this for a particular assignment or for something else?"

Difficult Questions (sample responses):

  • "I am having some trouble finding resources to answer your question. Let me check with a colleague and see if we can find something together. I will be right back with you."
  • "If it is okay with you, I would like to take some time to dig into this further. I could reach out to you via email or phone call to discuss what I find in about twenty minutes or so. Would that work for you?"

Sharing Links:

  • Double check with the student that they are able to successfully click the link that you shared.
  • If you are sharing links from Eagle Library Search, be sure to select the "Permalink" on the right hand side of the page when you are on an item record. If sharing from our catalog, select "Link to this record" on the right hand side of the item record.

Follow-Up:

  • "You are very welcome! Is there anything else that I can assist you with at this time?"
  • "Glad to help! If you do not find what you are looking for, please check back in with us and we will see what else we can find."
