ChatGPT / AI FAQ

Although HCC has not made a formal ruling as to whether or not using AI and ChatGPT constitutes academic dishonesty, it is up to your professor as to whether such a tool is acceptable. Please be safe and avoid any software that writes your paper for you.

General Caveats:

  • Do not assume you can use AI, ChatGPT, or similar software to aid or create things for you. Check with your professor.

  • HCC does not yet have a campus-wide policy regarding AI. Some departments have their own policies, which include allowing individual professors to incorporate AI into their courses. **This does not mean every course in that department allows AI.**

  • Should you use AI in a course that forbids it--even though a different course in the same department has allowed the software--you could suffer consequences as laid out in HCC's Student Code of Conduct manual. Ignorance of the rules does not absolve you of responsibility.
