Outreach for Librarians: Adult Coloring

21st Century Outreach for Innovative Librarians

Adult Coloring

Why:  Coloring is relaxing.

Supplies:  various coloring pages, colored pencils

How To:

Put out the coloring pages and colored pencils.

Things to Think About:

  • You can find many free pages to color as well as puzzles by searching the Internet using the term “free coloring pages for adults”.
  • While it’s easy to save the ones that come in PDF’s, many of them are jpg’s.  I recommend starting a PowerPoint document that has been sized to 8 ½ x 11”.
  • Be careful about using copyrighted material.
  • Because some of the coloring pages have very fine detail, it’s recommended that you set out colored pencils vs crayons.
  • Put out a variety of page styles and difficulty.
  • Check on the table occasionally to straighten up and remove colored pages that have been left behind.
  • While some libraries have an adult coloring table year round, you could put out supplies occasionally – especially for Finals Stress Relief.

Alternatives:

  • You can put out puzzle pages (crossword, find-a-word, mazes & Sudoku).
  • Themed puzzles are abundant around the holidays.
  • Stencils, materials for rubbings, and Spirograph’s help to add variety.
