Outreach for Librarians: Workshops

21st Century Outreach for Innovative Librarians

Pop-Up Tables

Pop-Up tables are just what they sound like – having a table where there normally isn’t one in a high traffic area to attract attention to whatever you may be doing, and they nicely facilitate demonstrations as well as activities.

Workshops

Why:

Formal education should only be a jumping off point in our journey as life-long learners, and there’s so much to know!  What are you interested in?  What do think students would like to learn or should know?  Teach it!  Librarians are faculty, and faculty teach.  Librarians are in the unique situation to expand opportunities to teach and fill in the gaps of student knowledge and abilities, and in doing so, we can help increase student retention, perseverance and "grit".

How To:

  • Workshops can be done in a variety of ways including pop-up tables and traditional workshops that are taught in a classroom or computer lab.
  • Once you have an idea for a topic, decide who is going to teach it – you or invite someone in.
