Students are coming to us unprepared in a variety of ways – socially, cognitively, and lacking certain life skills as well as “soft skills” which are really necessary life skills. While some may say that this is out of our area, as librarians are faculty, and we can take this opportunity to fill in the gaps and teach in those areas that aren’t being covered by traditional curriculum. There is an added benefit, because when students learn these skills, they lead to perseverance and resilience in their academic life as well as success once they enter their chosen career.
